VISUAL ART COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Information:
Title:
Visual Art

Description: Units- Drawing, Painting, 2D Design, & 3D Design. Each unit includes art concepts, skills in media, art appreciation - art history, skill demonstration(s) by the teacher, practice by students, & assessment. Assigned objectives and rules are given to the students.

Credit: 1

Art Instructor: Zaiba Mustafa

Year: 2009-2010.

Period and Time: Ones per week – 45 minutes class time

Building and Room: Main building, Comp Lab.

Project Delivery Method: Traditional Classroom Delivery of HW and Projects.

Teaching Format: Lab (power Point Presentations) - lecture - skill demonstration Estimated Home Work Time: Reading given material and contemplating designs for projects, 2-3 hours out of class per week.

Required Text - Supplies: Tutorial - Instructions for each lesson will be given to the students. Power point presentation for step by step guidance through the project will be projected during the class. Students will be given an ‘Art Supply’ list. They have to bring the required supplies for the class.

» Drawing and Coloring Unit: (6 projects)
→ Drawing (still life, landscape, nature)
→ Art and Design (color and texture compositions, designs and patterns, backgrounds and borders)

» 2D/3D Design Unit: (2 projects)
→ Mixed Media (still life)
→ Multimedia (positive & negative counterchange)

» Painting Unit: (2 projects)
→ Flower Painting (water colors)
→ Landscape Painting (warm and cool colors)

» Visual Art Journal: Topic (Kufi Styles)
→ Arabic Calligraphy (Students make a journal with their different styles of calligraphy)

» Computer Visual Art: (Power Point Presentation)
→ Students learn how to use PowerPoint presentations to effectively show their knowledge of Visual Art in general and the elements and principles of design in particular. They will be given instructions on how to illustrate the given terms with a visual resource and definition (contained in the notes).

» Visual Literacy Unit: (Art Appreciation /Art History)
→ What the students see…. List of web resources will be given to the students.
