Directions: To create a square design in Square Kufi, use a graph paper and draw a square on it. Draw your Name in Square Kufi Calligraphy by dividing the alphabets of your name along the four sides of the square as shown in the sample images above.You can create a pattern to fill in the center or the left over space in the square.

Trace the image on the bottom right of your drawing paper. Rotate your page in a spiral way and trace the image on the bottom left side. Rotate page and repeat trace until you finish all four sides of the page. Outline the finished square design with a fine tip marker. Color it with color pencils or markers. Your Name in Square Kufic Calligraphy is finished !

Note: To fill the complete area, you must modify the letter shapes to fit in the square. This requires some calculations and taste. Never bend or change the letter form to the point where it looses its traditional form, or in a way that would confuse it with another character in the alphabet. Make sure the connections are right and are not causing errors in reading.

Turn in your finished project for grading during your class time.
